Plug-ins
Plug-ins are small software programs
that extend the capabilities of web browsers.
The most dynamic parts of web
pages (sound, video, interactions, etc.) usually require one or more plug-ins
in order to be accessed. (For example, QuickTime, Shockwave, and Acrobat Reader
are plug-ins needed to view all the content on this CD-ROM.)
If you do not have the appropriate
plug-in on your computer, you will probably see a generic icon in place of the
dynamic feature. You will also receive an error message directing you to the
web site of the company that produces the plug-in.
Software companies are continually
developing and updating plug-ins. Plug-ins are typically available free of charge
by visiting a software company's web site.
Obtaining plug-ins from a CD-ROM
is much quicker than going to a web site.
Check out theSoftware
page on this CD-ROM for a selection of plug-ins used in online courses at UCF.
